I had an amazing opportunity to present at the American Academy of Forensic Sciences conference this year in Baltimore, Maryland. I started doing research my sophomore year, and this poster is part of my thesis, which focuses on using a child’s toy that electrostatically picks up drug residues. I was joined by La’Nyah Nance, who also contributed greatly to the project.
At the conference, there were numerous poster sessions, case breaks, and presentations to attend. I am interested in pursuing forensic biology after graduation, so I particularly enjoyed a presentation discussing how DNA is tested for in charred bone fragments. There was even an exhibition hall where companies displayed their products and showed cool demos. They even had puppies! I met and networked with many successful forensic professionals and gained helpful information about graduate programs. Presenting at this conference was an incredible achievement for me, and it was a fantastic opportunity to see my work and the hard work of others pay off significantly. I would like to acknowledge the College of Natural and Health Sciences and the Honors program for funding my travel to Maryland.
Best,
Kim
