Honors Exec Council

The Honors Executive Council (HEC) is a student-led organization that works with the Honors Program Directors on events and activities. Service on the HEC satisfies your engagement requirements for the ACE points and also earns you a Leadership badge if you remain active in one of the leadership positions for at least one year. Leadership positions include: President, Vice President, Social Media Coordinator, or Chair of Symposia, On-Campus Activities, Off-Campus Excursions, or Service Subcommittees. General members of these subcommittees receive 10 points for each subcommittee meeting they attend, if they contribute to the meeting & its activities in some way.

Symposia Subcommittee

This subcommittee makes recommendations about symposia speakers and topics. It also advises the Directors about formats for these events that students find engaging. Members facilitate the Distinguished Speaker Series event, which brings high-profile speakers to UT to talk about their work.

On-Campus Activities Subcommittee

This subcommittee recommends and helps to organize social events on campus. Events have included beginning of the year BBQs, May the 4th Be With You Finals Party, Flashlight tag, S’mores roasts, movie nights, and Christmas cookie decorating, just to name a few.

Off-Campus Excursions Subcommittee

This subcommittee suggests and helps to organize engaging and enriching activities for Honors students who want to explore the Tampa Bay area and all it has to offer. Events have included trips to the Chihuly museum, ice cream socials at Armature Works, night-hunting for scorpions on the beach, a guided tour of a morgue, Halloween Horror Night at Busch Gardens, and attending a play at the Straz Center.

Service Subcommittee

This subcommittee suggests and helps to organize service opportunities for Honors students. Primarily, it helps put together at least one beach cleanup per semester at the beach that Honors has adopted at Cypress Point Park. This usually involves communicating with Keeping Tampa Bay Beautiful, organizing trash pickup supplies, organizing volunteer contact information, & volunteering for the event itself. Occasionally, this subcommittee recommends other service opportunities & collaborations beyond the Cypress Park pickup.

Anyone interested in volunteering for the HEC should write honors@ut.edu about open positions and opportunities.
