Hon 100: Out of Classroom Experience

Dr. Abe Miller took his Hon 100 class to St. Pete at the semester’s end to celebrate lots of hard work and enjoy what Tampa Bay has to offer. Here’s what Dr. Miller had to say about the experience:

We drove over to St. Petersburg and toured the Florida Holocaust Museum in the morning, where the class learned of the history and saw real artifacts including a box car used to transport people to concentration camps. Afterwards, we went to Doc Ford’s restaurant on St. Pete pier and discussed what we saw and learned at the Holocaust museum. Afterwards, a few people took their shoes off to get their feet in the water. From the pier, we made our way to the Dali museum and enjoyed a tour with a Docent. It was fascinating to tour the Dali after visiting the Holocaust museum because World War II impacted Dali’s work so much. Many of his paintings portrayed the war and its negative impacts on society. The next week students presented to the class what impacted them the most. Visually seeing the box car at the Holocaust Museum that help up to 100 people deeply impacted several people. Dali’s use of the double image and his struggle of being in his brother’s shadow was amazing.
