Animals in Literature and the Problem of Mass Extinction

On January 27th, Drs. Cari Hovanec and Rachel Murray presented a symposium on Animals in Literature and the Problem of Mass Extinction. Dr. Hovanec is a Professor of Instruction in English and Writing. She is the author of Animal Subjects (2018). Her research and teaching interests include literature and the environment and television studies. Her co-author Dr. Rachel Murray is a Fellow in English at Sheffield University, and the author of The Modernist Exoskeleton (2020). She is an expert on twentieth-century literature and animals in literature. The symposium concerned the ways in which Modernist writers have approached the concept of extinction and broached the question, “Why haven’t we learned?”
